Our Element Earrings make a statement! The vibrant colours and beautiful patterns of each earring make these lightweight pieces true conversation starters. Made from 'vegetable ivory,' slices of the tagua nut have been carefully cut, painted, drilled and polished by hand to make these vivid earrings, that hang from sterling silver hooks. No two are exactly alike.
The tagua nut can be found on a palm tree in the rainforests of South America. It is sometimes called 'vegetable ivory' as it has been used for hundreds of years as an ivory substitute for buttons, jewellery and figurines due to its dense properties. Tagua nuts are harvested from the pods of the tree and then dried for several months. They must be sanded or cut into shape, which is often done by local artisans who are paid fairly for their work. The cultivation of Tagua prevents deforestation and provides work for about 35,000 people.
These pieces are perfect for those who love ethical fashion that makes a bold statement!
